| How to Utilize our New Website Download this handout here. WELCOME BACK to our site! Miami East offers students and parents a SINGLE SIGN ON! This means you will only need one log in for each student you have in the district. Once you are in, you will see dropdown box called Passkeys. This is where all of the programs that your student has access to will be located, and you will not need to log in to each of them again. This includes Study Island, Accelerated Reader, and Pinnacle. The Passkeys area is where you see each of these programs. Our site offers many enhanced user experiences, including podcasts, RSS Feeds, e-alerts, more resources, slide shows, textbooks and educational materials, and interactive calendars. We invite you to sign in and look around. SIGNING IN FOR THE FIRST TIME To begin accessing your child's resources, navigate to http://miamieast.k12.oh.us. Locate the Sign-In tab located in the top right corner of the website. When prompted, enter the username and password listed below: Website User Name: Website Password: Once you sign in, select the Access Info tab in the top right corner. Adding your address, zip code, phone and email address will give you access to Mapquest tools for directions, E-Alerts, and RSS Feeds. This information is for district use only. You can also change your password. If you want to participate in E-Alerts (messages sent to your Inbox whenever a chosen area of the site is updated), select the "on" radio button, and choose Edit Subscriptions. YOU WILL NEED TO RECONFIGURE YOUR E-ALERTS AND NOTIFICATION PREFERENCES USING THESE NEW LOG INS. Last year's school-generated logins from the beginning of the year will no longer work. In the case of more than one child in a family, text alerts by logging in as your oldest child. In the case of classroom teachers, you will want to log in as each child to choose their specific classroom teacher or sports team e-alerts. In some cases, accesses to certain areas are limited to students in those classes. SUBSCRIBING TO E-ALERTS On the Edit Subscriptions page you will see Miami East Local Schools. All of the sections in that portion of the site can be marked if their updates are of interest to you. Choosing the dropdown arrow next to Miami East Local Schools will allow you to choose a MEEL, MEJH, MEHS or the Athletic Department. Example 1: You have a child in 7th grade football and want to be notified of changes, pictures, or coach messages. You would select Athletic Department and under Fall Sports, check the box Football - 7th Grade Boys. Example 2: You have a student in Mr. David Scott's Science Class. You would choose Miami East High School and under Science, check Mr. David Scott. Choose as many subjects, teachers, sports or resources as you would like, and you will receive notification when these areas of the site are updated. MOBILE E-ALERTS Back on the My Profile tab when you log in and choose Access Info you see Mobile Alerts. These alerts are sent to your cell phone. You will add your number, your service provider, and select whether you want all updates or only emergency messages to come to your phone in the form of a text message. Standard text-messaging rates apply. Snow delays/school cancellations are not emergency messages, they are regular mobile e-alerts. When you are done, select save at the bottom of the profile page. CALENDARS Every section in the site has a calendar. Each teacher, grade, or sports team, can update their own calendar with assignments or other updates. To subscribe to the RSS Feed for any calendar, while viewing that calendar, select the RSS Feed tab. You will see this throughout the site on areas that you can subscribe to (such as homepage updates or announcements) and receive update notifications. You can choose Export to take events from any calendar and import it into your personal desktop calendar. PROTECTED CONTENT Protected content or material with copyright permission for certain uses will not display in RSS Feeds. It will be viewable only when you are logged into the site with your assigned username and password. Textbooks and other copyrighted materials are not visible if you do not log in. PINNACLE The ability to monitor your child's grades, attendance and any assignment information can be securely viewed from any internet browser. We are now providing access to Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV) feature through Passkeys. When using Pinnacle, please consider: • Please allow teachers turnaround time to enter grades. • This is a privilege for parents to monitor their child's progress. Any misuse or abuse of this account will result in denial of access. • Missing assignments may be calculated in a variety of ways. Please check with your child and/or • their teacher for the particular policy in the class. • If questions arise, please contact your child's teacher or principal. |
