Mr. Jeffrey SmithDirector of Bands 5-12, 6th Grade General MusicExt. 5512 or 3312jsmith@miamieast.k12.oh.usHigh School/Junior High Music RoomsBiography and Fun Facts for Mr. Jeffrey SmithJeffrey is a 1998 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he received his BA of Music in Music Education. In 2003, he received his Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton, where he completed his Administrative Licensure Program in 2006. Jeffrey has also completed the Curriculum, Instructional, and Professional Development degree program at the University of Dayton.
Jeffrey started his career in the Southeastern Local School District before coming to Miami East in the fall of 2000. Under his direction, the Miami East Concert Band and Chamber Choir have received Superior ratings at District XI OMEA Competition. In 2010 the Concert Band advanced to State Contest, receiving an "Excellent" rating and in 2012 and 2013 the Concert Band received a "Superior" rating (the highest rating possible). With 28 and 32 members respectively, both bands were among the smallest groups to receive a Superior either year in the entire state. The back to back Superior ratings put the band in an elite group of Class C bands to repeat. In 2014, the Concert Band pulled the "clean sweep" by receiving straight Superiors at District and State Contest. As of Spring 2021, The Concert Band has qualified for State Contest 10 consecutive years and 10 of the last 11 years. In addition, the Viking Pride Marching Band has been repeat Class A Finalists at the Mid-States Band Association Class A Championships and won Small Division and Overall Parade Grand Champions in 2010 and 2012 at the Music in the Parks Festival at Cedar Point.
Jeffrey has performed in various performance organizations, including the Miami University Wind Ensemble, Miami University Symphony Orchestra and Miami University 6:30 Jazz Ensemble, The Miami University Men’s Glee Club, The Wittenberg Chamber Orchestra, the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, and the Middletown Symphony Orchestra. He still performs occasionally throughout the Dayton area, playing for various functions, pit orchestras and as a private instructor. He is also a member of the Ohio Music Education Association.Fun Facts:-
