Hello and welcome to third grade! I am very excited to get the school year off to a great start! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth Fields, and this is my 11th year teaching here at Miami East Local Schools. I have been teaching for 12 years. I have previously worked with Head Start, and Springfield City Schools doing Title I. I am very excited to be here at Miami East in the third grade! I live in Springfield in the county with my husband.
This year I will be working very hard to help your child learn how to become organized and responsible for his/her class work and homework assignments. The system that I will be using will help your child tremendously in these two areas. Your child will be using a three ring binder that will hold his/her planner, homework folder, and folders for every other subject as well. This binder is to go home with them every day after school; including weekends. Look for your child’s nightly homework assignments, papers to be signed, notes sent home, or possible study guides in their homework folder. Each day your child will be responsible for recording his/her homework in their planner and placing their homework papers in the homework folder. There is a place in the planner if you need to correspond with me, and this is where the planner should be signed by you daily. Also, you will find your child’s weekly spelling list written in the planner.
I know you have very busy schedules once your child gets home from school, but your help is extremely valuable in this matter. Set aside about thirty to forty minutes nightly to do homework assignments, study spelling words, and review for upcoming tests/quizzes. A routine and schedule will greatly help your child in being successful in 3rd grade. This also allows him/her to see the value and importance of their education. If your child seems to be having issues with completing the homework please contact me as soon as possible. Let’s have a great year together!
Mrs. FieldsBefore your child begins his/her nightly assignments please check their binder for the following things:
- Make sure your child is writing down his/her weekly spelling list in the planner. The list is posted Monday mornings.
- Make sure your child is recording daily homework assignments into his/her planner.
- Check for notes being sent home (in the homework folder). Each day as your child packs up, your child will get to take home papers. These may include graded papers, school papers, newsletters, or any other important information/forms.
- Please do not clean any folders out other than the homework folder. The subject folders will be used for papers that the children are to keep, and we will put all the papers that can go home in the homework folder! Homework and any study guides that need to be done for math, science, or social studies will be placed in this folder as well.
Please call me if you have any questions about your child’s binder and my expectations. My number here at school is 335-5439 extension 6210, and my email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org. If you leave a message I will call you back as soon as I can, and I will try to check my email often. I am very excited to have your child in my class this year! Thank you so much for your help and support, it really does make a difference!
