AR
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program that I use in my classroom to help foster a love of reading as well as to improve student comprehension. AR allows students to read books on their level and then take short (usually 10 questions) comprehension quizzes over the story they read. Students are awarded points based on the number of questions answered correctly.I require students to achieve AR points each quarter. This first quarter, students are required to read and achieve 1 AR point before the end of the quarter. We will then use the STAR results to customize each student's point goal for the following quarters. AR books may be the same book that your student chooses to use for his or her book report for the quarter or read for Book-It (optional). Please encourage students to choose a book on their level. If you are unsure of their reading level, I can also help lead them to a suitable book to use. Each book is worth a various amount of points (based on the difficulty of the book) Most 3rd grade level books are worth 1pt. each. If you want to check a book level or the amount of points a book is worth, you can go to the website www.arbookfind.comPlease don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
