Re-Organizational Board Meeting


Brad Burton, board president, called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., held in room 602 at Miami East Junior High School. The country was honored by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call was taken with board members Brad Burton, Mark Davis, Rusty Miller, Lucy Taylor, and Harold Brumfield in attendance.

Also in attendance were: Eloise Armstrong, parent; Dana Rasmussen, Troy Daily Newspaper; and Patrick Cooley, Troy Daily Newspaper.




Mrs. Armstrong, Miami East High School parent shared with the Board of Education some of her concerns and suggestions regarding the district’s Post Secondary Educational Options Program (PSEOP).  Mrs. Armstrong questioned the district’s current policy of requiring students at the high school that are currently involved in the PSEOP Program being required to take selected courses only offered at the high school .

          required as a result of both Board of Education members continuing to serve in the same
          positions from the previous year.

A.          Reviewed Alternative Tax Budget Document.


B.          Approval to authorize contractual payments, authorize payments of bills,

     borrow funds, request advance of taxes and invest funds for 2007. 


                  C.       Approval of “A Resolution declaring that the Board Of Education
                             of the Miami East Local School District has reviewed the documents and  
                             information prepared by the chief fiscal officer of the Miami East Local
 School District for submission to the Budget Commission of Miami County,
                             Ohio, in relation to the Alternative Tax Document format filing provided under
                             section 5705.281 of the Ohio Revised Code and authorized by said
                             commission for the fiscal year 2008, and that said body approves the same”, as
                             prepared by legal counsel for the Miami County Budget Commission. 


      D.       OTHER: The Audit Committee tentatively agreed to meet on January 23, 2007
     to participate in the district’s audit exit report.

                   A.      EMPLOYMENT ITEMS:


           1.     Approval of sub teachers who have been approved by the
Miami County Educational Service Center and on file in the central
                   office.  These are all on an as needed basis for the 2006-07 school year. 
                   The board-approved rate of pay has been set at $75.00 per day through
                   10th consecutive day and $83.00 per day from 11th day through 60 days in
                   the same position, then placed on beginning salary schedule.













-           Reviewed the School Resource Officer Contract for the 2007-08 School
                        Year.  Mr. Rappold shared with the Board of Education the current School  
                        Resource Officer contract that is in place with the district and the Miami   
                        County Sheriff’s Department.  Mr. Rappold has met with the Sheriff’s
                        Department and requested information for next year’s contract.  Mr.
                        Rappold shared that he believes the program has been very successful for
                        the district, students, and parents.  Officer Harnish has assisted in
                        numerous situations in all three buildings, provided assistance to students,
                        and been a valuable resource for parents in the district.  Mr. Rappold
                        stated that he believes the program should continue and will present the
                        BOE with the 2007-2008 contract when it is completed.


-           Mr. Rappold shared a heartfelt letter addressed to the Board of Education
                        from the wife of the gentleman that suffered a heart attack at the
                        December 19th MEHS Basketball game.  The letter thanked the staff at
                        Miami East for their tremendous effort during the situation.  The letter
                        concludes as follows: “In our world today, we often wonder if people
                        really do care.  Recently I learned that in a time of need, there are those at
                        Miami East who have compassion and regard for others.  Your kind deeds
                        will never be forgotten”.






ADJOURNMENT:  The Board of Education adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
