CASSTOWN, OH – April 30, 2026 – The Miami East Board of Education officially approved the hiring of Dr. Joseph Hoelzle as the next Superintendent of Miami East Local Schools during its meeting on April 30.

The decision follows a comprehensive search process conducted in partnership with the Miami County Educational Service Center, which included input from staff, students, and community members. That feedback helped shape the leadership profile and priorities used to identify the district’s next superintendent.

“Dr. Hoelzle stood out throughout the process for his leadership, communication, and ability to build strong relationships,” said Board President Amanda Howell. “He demonstrated a clear commitment to being visible, collaborative, and strategically focused.  These are qualities that align closely with what our district values most.”

Dr. Hoelzle, who prefers to go by Joe, shared his enthusiasm for joining the district, stating, “Very excited to get started and join the Viking family. I’ve always been impressed by the high standards, expectations, and achievement the Miami East community has displayed.”

As part of the search process, the Board identified key priorities for the district’s next leader, including:

  • Ensuring staff feel supported, valued, and heard

  • Strengthening morale and staff retention

  • Maintaining and building upon strong academic performance

  • Fostering a positive and trusted community perception

  • Continuing to cultivate a unified district culture grounded in values and traditions

Miami East Local Schools is recognized for its strong academic performance, earning multiple five-star ratings on the Ohio School Report Card, and is known for its dedicated staff, close-knit community, and wide range of student opportunities across athletics, the arts, FFA, and music.

Dr. Hoelzle will build on the strong foundation already in place while continuing to move the district forward through the thoughtful execution of the recently completed Strategic Plan.

Dr. Hoelzle is expected to begin his role on August 1, 2026, ensuring a smooth leadership transition.

Additional information, including opportunities for staff and community members to meet Dr. Hoelzle, will be shared on the district’s website and social media sites in the coming weeks.
