Superintendent Search Announcement

(February 27, 2026) CASSTOWN, OH – The Miami East Board of Education has officially initiated the search for the district’s next superintendent following the resignation of Superintendent Eric Hughes, who has accepted the superintendent position at Northmont City Schools effective August 1st. The board is committed to ensuring a seamless transition that maintains stability and continuity for students, staff, and families.

The Board extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Hughes for his leadership and service. During his tenure, Miami East earned multiple five-star ratings on the state report card and completed a comprehensive five-year strategic plan developed with meaningful input from students, staff, families, and community members. His commitment to academic excellence and community partnership has positioned the district strongly for its next chapter.

To ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition, the Board has approved a structured, six-phase superintendent search process. The plan emphasizes stakeholder engagement, including opportunities for staff, parents, and community members to share their perspectives on the qualities, leadership attributes, and experience they value most in Miami East’s next leader. Feedback gathered throughout this process will help shape the candidate profile and guide decision-making as the district works to identify the best fit for its future.

The Miami County Educational Service Center will partner with the Board to facilitate the search process. The ESC will assist with stakeholder input collection, candidate recruitment, and coordinating the vetting process. The Board of Education will retain full responsibility for all decisions regarding interviews, candidate review, and the final selection.

The search process begins immediately, with the goal of identifying a finalist by the end of April. The Board is committed to a process that is transparent, inclusive, and aligned with the district’s long-standing values of community partnership, academic excellence, and continuous improvement.
