Dear Miami East Families,
Another school year has come to a close, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Viking community for your partnership and continued support of our schools. At the May 27 Board of Education meeting, district leadership addressed several important matters, and I would like to provide an update. As always, Miami East Local Schools remains committed to open communication with our families and community.
First, I want to acknowledge the ongoing personnel investigation concerning a high school teacher. As shared during the Board meeting, the District is conducting its own investigation, separate from the law enforcement process. We appreciate your understanding that we must operate within certain legal and procedural limitations to protect the integrity of the investigation. As additional information becomes legally permissible to share, we will continue to communicate with our families and community. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
During the meeting, the Board also addressed several administrative changes for the 2026-2027 school year. While transitions naturally bring change, Miami East Local Schools remains focused on stability, student success, and continuing the important work taking place across the District each day.
Director of Operations Michael Upton announced his resignation in February, which goes into effect at the end of May and Mr. Donn Craig has been named the District’s next Director of Operations. Mr. Craig’s first day will be on June 15th. Additionally, Elementary Principal Brian Rohrer has accepted a position with Centerville City Schools, and Treasurer Alex Hix has accepted a position as Treasurer at Findlay City Schools. The District will be actively searching for candidates to fill these roles for the 2026-2027 school year.
Thank you for your continued support and have a great day.
Eric Hughes
Superintendent
